Air Quality Monitoring

May 30, 2019 - We are currently monitoring the air quality in our Division as the central parts of the province smoke is expected to move back north into our region.

A special air quality statement is in effect for Parkland County near Entwistle, Fallis, Tomahawk, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Wabamun.

Smoke from wildfires in northern Alberta is causing poor air quality and reducing visibility in some areas.

The air quality index is being reported in the 4-7 range as of 8am this morning depending on location. By 10am, that was downgraded to a 9.

If the index hits 6 or higher, children will be kept inside. If it’s below, Principals will use discretion when making the decision to send younger students out for recess or lunch.

The advisory states: Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

Also, any planned activities that would involve strenuous activities (track meets, etc.) will be rescheduled.
