Our Student Code of Conduct exists to ensure that each student and staff member has access to a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects diversity and fosters a sense of belonging. The Code of Conduct ensures that our school promotes a culture of wellness that:

Establishes and maintains a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environment for all students, staff, families and the greater community;

Establishes and maintains an appropriate balance between individual and collective rights, freedoms, and responsibilities in the school community;

Establishes and publishes expectations for student behavior while at school, at a school-related activity, or while engaging in an activity at any time that may have an impact on others in the school;

Ensures that healthy environments exist in all schools that are free from fear, discrimination and harassment while promoting inclusive strategies to ensure that every student is treated with respect and dignity. Parkland School Division is a place where exploration, creativity and imagination make learning exciting and where all learners aspire to reach their dreams.
In keeping with a commitment to the Alberta Human Rights Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, in Parkland School Division everyone is accepted and experiences a sense of belonging. The Division supports the endeavors of staff, students, parents and the community to promote positive student behavior and conduct throughout our community of schools.
Parkland School Division has a responsibility to ensure that each student enrolled in a school operated by the Board and each staff member employed by the Board is provided with a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects diversity and fosters a sense of belonging.
All stakeholders in the success and well-being of students, and especially the students themselves, are expected to recognize their responsibilities in developing student self-discipline within a culture of wellness. Staff members and students will not be discriminated against as provided for in the Alberta Human Rights Act or the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Student Use of Electronics

All students using technology for learning must sign Parkland School Division's Responsible Use of Technology Student Agreement Form.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Initiative - Students in Grades 4-9 may bring personally owned devices (tablets or laptops) to school.

Students use these devices throughout the day to complete their work. The BYOD Initiative is entirely optional, and students are not required to bring their own devices to use at school.
Cell Phone Use

Teachers will give advance notice if cell phones are going to be used in class for videos or pictures.

Students may not use cell phones in class unless instructed otherwise.

Cell phones are not permitted in dances or during in school events and assemblies.

Cell phones may be permitted during school field trips, but must be kept in pockets during presentations and activities.

Cell phones are permitted during recess and lunch breaks for students in Grades 7-9 only.

If a student brings a cell phone to class, they must leave it with the teacher.
Dress Code
Muir Lake School is a learning environment and students are expected to dress their best. The following must be
- Clothing that promotes alcohol, drugs, inappropriate language, or racial and/or sexual references (directly or implied) is not acceptable.
- Students are not to wear clothing that is clearly revealing.
- All clothing must cover underwear.
- Wearing hats and toques in class is a matter left to the discretion of the teacher.
- Hoodies must be down when in the school.
- All footwear must suit the activity.
- Caps/Hats/Visors/Toques must be removed during all assemblies and exams.
Physical Education, Outdoor and Playground Safety

Students are expected to play safely, use equipment wisely and adjust their play according to weather conditions.

All students are expected to go outside daily and dress appropriately for weather conditions.

All staff supervisors wear safety vests that are clearly visible to students.

The Safety Guidelines for Physical Activity in Alberta Schools will be observed and followed.
